To make it easier to participate, Friday Night Magic events are open to anyone and feature the Standard Constructed, Sealed Deck or Booster Draft formats. We also run one Two-Headed Giant tournament (Standard or Sealed) during months which have five Fridays in them. Running events in these formats makes it easier for new players to participate, and you only have to remember three things: Pack your Standard deck; remember how to get to our store, and what time we start the event.

Tournament Information
The DCI has teamed up with our store to give players the opportunity to play in a fun weekly event and have a shot at cool FOIL prize cards in the process. FNM is designed to keep the play style casual:
- FNM events have significantly less impact on players' ratings than most tournaments
- Prize cards are available to participants in other ways than just to the winners
- For rules enforcement, the emphasis is on teaching players the correct ways to play
We run Friday Night Magic every week with the exception of major holidays.
Friday Night Magic Rules
- 1st and 2nd place receive one prize card each.
- Door prize – We will randomly award the remaining two prize cards to two players that did not place first or second.
- FNM events are 8k tournaments and have a Regular Rules Enforcement Level (REL).
- We only skip FNM tournaments during major holidays, so check our events calendar in advance if you think we may be skipping FNM on the date you're planning on visiting.
- All 4 prize cards associated with each Friday Night Magic event must be awarded to the players.
- Friday Night Magic events can only be run on Fridays.

This Week's Tournament Format: Standard
What is Standard?
The Standard format uses only the newest sets the game has to offer. The current block, the block that was released the previous October, and the most recent core set are all legal to play in a Standard deck. As you can tell from the name, Standard is the most commonly played format. Standard events are available year round at retailers and tournament venues worldwide, offering new players a great opportunity to enjoy a tournament setting with the cards they've recently purchased.
How do I construct a Standard deck?
Updated December 18, 2009
Constructed decks must contain a minimum of sixty cards. There is no maximum deck size; however, you must be able to shuffle your deck with no assistance. If a player wishes to use a sideboard, it must contain exactly fifteen cards.
With the exception of basic land cards, a player’s combined deck and sideboard may not contain more than four of any individual card, counted by its English card title equivalent. All cards named Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest are basic.
The following card sets are permitted in Standard tournaments:
- Shards of Alara
- Conflux
- Alara Reborn
- Magic 2010
- Zendikar
- Worldwake (effective February 5, 2010)
- Rise of the Eldrazi (effective April 23, 2010)
There are currently no banned cards in Standard tournaments.
What is the entry fee for a Standard tournament?
$5, but we will waive the entry fee if your purchase three Magic: the Gathering booster packs from us on the day of the event. |
